The following was written by G. Edward Griffin, author of "Creature from Jekyll Island" (exposing the origins of the U.S. Federal Reserve). The ideals of freedom and liberty which he outlines below also form the foundation of Dr. Ron Paul's campaign. More information can be found at www.freedomforceinternational.org

THE CREED OF FREEDOM

Intrinsic Nature of Rights

I believe that only individuals have rights, not the collective group; that these rights are intrinsic to each individual, not granted by the state; for if the state has the power to grant them, it also has the power to deny them, and that is incompatible with personal liberty.

I believe that a just government derives its power solely from the governed. Therefore, the state must never presume to do anything beyond what individual citizens also have the right to do. Otherwise, the state is a power unto itself and becomes the master instead of the servant of society.

Supremacy of the Individual

I believe that one of the greatest threats to freedom is to allow any group, no matter its numeric superiority, to deny the rights of the minority; and that one of the primary functions of just government is to protect each individual from the greed and passion of the majority.

Freedom of Choice

I believe that desirable social and economic objectives are better achieved by voluntary action than by coercion of law. I believe that social tranquility and brotherhood are better achieved by tolerance, persuasion, and the power of good example than by coercion of law. I believe that those in need are better served by charity, which is the giving of one's own money, than by welfare, which is the giving of other people's money through coercion of law.

Equality under law

I believe that all citizens should be equal under law, regardless of their national origin, race, religion, gender, education, economic status, life style, or political opinion. Likewise, no class should be given preferential treatment, regardless of the merit or popularity of its cause. To favor one class over another is not equality under law.

Proper Role of Government

I believe that the proper role of government is negative, not positive; defensive, not aggressive. It is to protect, not to provide; for if the state is granted the power to provide for some, it must also be able to take from others, and once that power is granted, there are those who will seek it for their advantage. It always leads to legalized plunder and loss of freedom. If government is powerful enough to give us everything we want, it is also powerful enough to take from us everything we have. Therefore, the proper function of government is to protect the lives, liberty, and property of its citizens; nothing more. That government is best which governs least.

Open Letter to Dr. Ron Paul, his Campaign Managers and Dedicated Supporters

We know that 80% of persons fully exposed to Ron Paul’s message of freedom, peace and prosperity become dedicated supporters. However, we also know that only 10% of the people in the USA have been exposed to his message. The Ron Paul presidential campaign is now about one year old. Less than a month remains before Super Tuesday. A crucial question presents itself: how do we educate enough of the remaining 90% in time to win the presidency for Ron Paul and America?

I do not presume to give any political advice to Dr. Paul or anyone on his team. There is no one who could have done a better job of representing the movement. Ron Paul and everyone associated with the campaign have my utmost respect. It is therefore with some trepidation that I make the suggestions that follow. I offer my analysis from a marketing perspective in the hope that it may help to focus ideas and form a strategy to reach the largest number of Americans in a short amount of time.

Libertarians and the 10% who are already onboard are dedicated enough and care enough to understand the Constitutionalist perspective that Ron Paul so eloquently presents. However, we are not the majority. If we want to win over the other 90%, we need to keep the message simple, clear, concise and memorable. This is a basic marketing truth. If it is complex, it does not sell. People will not buy what they do not understand. The mind is incapable of focusing attention on two things at the same time.

We need to get the attention of the remaining 90%.

What is the central issue of the Ron Paul revolution? It appears to me that it is respect for the rule of law, the highest law in the USA being the Constitution. This is simple and easy to follow but soon becomes complex when all of the violations of the Constitution are discussed. It’s a lot of information and there is a real danger of losing people’s attention. Moreover, the Constitution is too abstract a concept to arouse the intense emotion needed to win.

This isn’t to say that there should not be a full and complete presentation of all issues, but simply that there should be one dramatic and easily understood idea at the center of public debate.

And so the central issue must be simple and easily related to emotionally. The remaining 90% must understand that real power in the United States lies in the hands of the private bankers who control the Federal Reserve – that these people use their power to steal from American taxpayers and line their own pockets. The central issue affecting all Americans is that the unconstitutional Federal Reserve steals Americans’ buying power, causes inflation, manipulates the economy and sends our sons and fathers to war. We can educate the remaining 90% if we concentrate on this one issue – the Federal Reserve is a destructive entity that must be abolished.

We can have one and only one sales pitch to the general public. For example:

1. Why have I lost my home to foreclosure? - Because the Fed has inflated the money supply and caused the real estate bubble etc.
2. Why did my husband die in Iraq? - Because the Fed financed the military industrial complex to make war profits at my family’s expense.
3. Why does my standard of living seem to decrease even though I’m working more than ever to make ends meet? - Because the Fed inflates the money supply and thus steals the purchasing power of my money.

There is not a single major issue that can not be laid at the door of the Fed. With only a limited time left to secure delegates to the Republican Convention, those who haven’t yet heard (or perhaps listened to) Ron Paul’s message need to be reached at a gut level. They need to believe that voting for Ron Paul will positively affect them and their families. Their attention must be grabbed. Ron Paul will make an excellent president; he is an incomparable choice in this elections race. Support this fact with a forceful marketing strategy and he will win.

The following is a response to the previous letter

3,000 years ago, Sun Tzu wrote in “The Art of War” that if you determine the time and place of the battle then you have won before the battle begins. It also means that you have momentum on your side. Only one tenth of a second is needed to act but one half of a second to respond.

We have a very clever group of thieves in opposition. They understand that in order to have a successful scam, you need to compromise the mark. Upon hearing for the first time that the people controlling the Fed can print all the money they want for their own benefit, a frequent reaction is: “I wish I could do that!” And therein is the problem. The average person may indeed support the thieves if he believes he is receiving his share. Because a majority of Americans are getting some portion of the newly minted money, they, on some level, are prepared to continue the fraud.

The argument can not be won by appealing to the honesty of a gold standard or its utility. The average person is not willing to go to the barricades for virtue or sound economic analysis. An appeal to honesty and utility is a reaction to the theft. It does not give us the advantage of setting the time and place of the battle. This will not get the momentum on our side.

The recently proposed April 15th general strike will give us the momentum. A demand to forfeit to the state all of the wealth stolen by the owners of the Fed will appeal to everyone who can be convinced that bankers steal. That may be 99% of the public. This is not an argument we can lose. We are not asking the voters to be honest. We only ask them to understand that a small group of billionaire bankers should be made to return what they have taken. It is a very easy sell. This revolution does not require sending the corrupt elites to the guillotines.

But it does require a widespread sense of righteous indignation. The American people are victims of a long and ongoing theft. They should know the names of the guilty and the crimes committed - when, how much, and by whom. This will make it real.

If anyone reading this article has information to contribute, I urge you to do so. Let’s set the time and place of the battle.

More Responses

Anna Laurina and J. Strelniece provide valuable insight for marketing the freedom message today. This is a revolution and revolutions are war. Sun Tzu was required reading in the USSR’s military academies. Commonalities between the old Soviet leadership and America’s neoconservatives far outweigh their differences. Study Sun Tzu and we’ll better understand what to expect from the opposition.

I was delighted by Ron Paul’s Denver speech. This was the first time (I believe) he directly asked for the honour to be the third president, after Jefferson and Jackson, to abolish a private and corrupt central bank. For this he received loud and long applause and cheers. The reaction on college campuses has been the same. Reminiscent of 1960s draft card burning, students have spontaneously burned dollar bills in protest.

Ron Paul’s winning strategy will come from listening to what existing supporters say. The Fed is the central issue. It is the mechanism used to steal from and enslave the free man. The Federal Reserve Note symbolizes theft, corruption and slavery. Imagine this: mass rallies at the Fed, perhaps at all regional Fed buildings, with hundreds, maybe thousands, of freedom loving people, each burning a Federal Reserve Note.

Back in the 1970s, the pro-liberty chant on April 15th was: Taxation is theft, smash the state!

In 2008 perhaps we can use:

Inflation is theft
Smash the Fed
Annnnnnnnnnnnd
All there hangers-on!

In response to A. Laurina's letter:

Who owns the Fed? This is not an easy question to answer. According to the last published report, it is all of the major NYC banks. However, these, in turn, are owned by the next largest NYC banks through trust departments. And currently, the major banks are selling significant minority stakes in themselves to large foreign investors, including Sovereign wealth funds. As a practical matter, only one major bank exists in NYC. The separate banking corporations are merely divisions of one Money Trust, the pre-1913 Rockefeller, Morgan, Warburg and Rothschild group that fathered the Fed.

Justice can not be served by a simple forfeiture of the assets of the Fed’s capital shares owners. Many innocents have been used as decoys. No one should be surprised. It is standard operating procedure for thieves to hide what they steal. It is estimated that some 30,000 people indirectly own the Fed. Of these, 7,000 are major investors. Of these 7,000, three hundred are major control holders and of these 300, fifty are able to set the agenda.

Who has more information? Let’s start publishing it everywhere.
